Sorry, but I think you are suffering from the heartbreak of irony deficiency. Most of these personals are taken from the London Review of Books or the Times Literary Supplement. In those magazines there is an informal contest to see who can write the cleverest terrible personal ad. Did you really think these were real? Who's dumb and pathetic now?

Man, this article rocks! I didn't realize all that you've done in your life, Mark. And thank you so much for the Digium award this year 2007 for the Service Provider innovation award announced at Fall VON 2007 to DIDXchange. Around 7000 or so carriers and voip entreneurs are using DIDXchange because of OPEN SOURCE that is absolutely embraced by 100s of 1000s of people all over the world as a result... and growing by the minute.

I think Asterisk is getting a little bit ahead of itself. First, let me say that I have personally set up an Asterisk system for my company. But it is clearly not a product that is ready for prime-time. It is a LONG way from being the Apache of VOIP.

While Asterisk can generally be made to work for small setups, it is A HUGE PAIN! It is a nightmare to debug the SIP connections that are necessary for just a simple set up. Also, the configuration files a stupidly arcane and the documentation next to worthless.

Finally, Asterisk is not scalable at all. That is why big VOIP setups use programs like sipX and OpenSER.

I'm not saying that Asterisk couldn't be fixed, improved and made more stable and scalable. But until that happens I don't think real companies are going to be dropping their hardware solutions any time soon.
